Sigma Tau, the offical ancient symbol of value! From symbolism back to Emperor Costantine and Revolation’s in the bible. The symbol is found on millions of relics to the time of Chirst. Could that be Robert Scots Mark with an “rST” where the “r” is lightly shaded.

Scot, appears t have placed an “r” to the left of the Sigma Tau symbol. Often seen on his original work’s. Trenchard jumps off his son inlaw Franis makers marks. Note that it says Wright & FS.

  1. Hello , I have collected prints engravings , woodcuts for many years specifically 1400’s through mid 1600’s . The following definitions are what I thought of when I saw your print and the artists identification at the bottom: pinx., pinxit:  (translates from Latin to english) has painted it.  Usually follows the artist’s name. Next we have f., fec., fecit: ( translates from Latin to english) has made it. Is it possible that this person designed and also engraved this print ? Best regards ,Mark

    • Greetings Mark,

The print was made by Wright as the main artist with Shallus. What is so odd, no one has ever mentioned the FS for Francis Shallus. But as I showed the other makers marks bear Trenchards mark as well. The Piladelphia artists guild worked in teams. Where its common to find 3-4 artist working on one art piece. Its possible that Scot did a little work on the piece. The ST is there and I often find Scot’s documented marks as rst, rSt and even his r that jmmps of the sigma Tau ST.
